SEO & AI Search

Narrativ is an SEO and AI search agency in Jakarta and Singapore. We do two connected jobs: rank your site in traditional search results, and get your brand cited inside AI answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Roughly three quarters of those citations come from third-party sources rather than your own website, which is why we run this alongside a working PR desk.

Search has split in two. People still type queries into Google, and they increasingly ask questions of ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's own AI Overviews, then act on the answer without clicking anything. In Indonesia, 65% of Google searches now end without a click to an external website. That makes visibility a different problem from ranking: you can hold position one and still be invisible in the answer a buyer actually reads. The work splits roughly three to one. About a quarter of what decides whether an AI engine cites you sits on your own website, in clean structure, server-rendered content, schema, and pages written so a passage can be lifted whole. The other three quarters sit somewhere else entirely.

That second three quarters is a public relations problem wearing a technical costume. Generative engines do not rank links the way search engines do. They repeat what they have read, and what they have read is overwhelmingly third-party: editorial coverage, industry roundups, review platforms, forum threads and reference entries. Brand mentions correlate around three times more strongly with AI visibility than backlinks do. Which is why most agencies selling generative engine optimisation can only reach a quarter of the problem. They can fix your schema and restructure your pages. They cannot get you written about, because they have never had to. We have run media relations in Indonesia for Oracle, Nutanix, Synology and Shell. The same desk that earns coverage earns citations, and we treat them as one job rather than two.

We will also tell you what does not work, which in a young field matters as much as what does. Google's own guidance is that optimising for generative AI search is still SEO, and that the new acronyms describe the same work applied to new surfaces. Several widely sold deliverables have no measured effect on citation, including llms.txt files, keyword chunking and mention farming. We do not bill for them. What we do instead is measurable: we take a baseline of where your brand is cited today across the major engines, fix the quarter that lives on your site, go and earn the three quarters that do not, then show you the difference ninety days later. We ran that audit on ourselves before we sold it to anyone, and you can ask to see it.

01What's included

Technical SEO

Audits, site architecture, crawlability and Core Web Vitals, with the fixes shipped rather than a report handed over.

AI search optimisation

Pages restructured so answer engines can lift them whole and generative engines can cite them: question-led headings, self-contained answers, comparison tables.

Earned mentions & citations

The three quarters that sit off your site. Editorial coverage, industry listings and review platforms, run by the same desk that handles your PR.

Entity & knowledge graph

Making your brand legible as one entity: consistent naming, schema, linked profiles, and presence in the reference sources AI engines trust.

Content built to be quoted

Briefs and pages written to answer a real question completely, in blocks an engine can extract without losing the meaning.

AI visibility reporting

A baseline, then monthly tracking of where and how often you are cited across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews, next to rankings and organic traffic.

02How we approach it

We Listen first, with a baseline audit of where you are cited today across search results and every major AI engine. We Frame the gap between the quarter you control and the three quarters you do not. We Make the fixes and the coverage: structure, schema and content on your side, earned mentions and listings off it. We Move monthly, tracking citations and rankings together and reporting the difference.

04Common questions

What is the difference between SEO, GEO and AEO?

SEO optimises for ranking position in search results. AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) structures content so it gets lifted as the direct answer in featured snippets and zero-click results. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) works to get your brand cited by name inside AI-generated answers. All three rest on the same foundations, and Google's own guidance treats optimising for AI search as still SEO.

Does GEO replace SEO?

No. Generative engines rely on many of the same authority and relevance signals as traditional search, so AI visibility is built on SEO fundamentals rather than instead of them. Treat anyone selling GEO as a replacement with caution.

Why does PR matter for AI search visibility?

Because roughly three quarters of AI citations point to third-party sources rather than a brand's own website. Editorial coverage, industry directories, review platforms and community discussion carry more weight with generative engines than anything you publish about yourself.

How do you measure AI visibility?

We take a baseline of where and how often your brand is cited across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, then track it monthly alongside rankings and organic traffic. You get the change over time, not a vanity score.

Does an llms.txt file help?

There is no evidence that it does. Google has said it does not read llms.txt, and independent studies across hundreds of thousands of domains found no citation effect. We keep one because it costs minutes to maintain, but we do not bill for it or count it as a deliverable.

Do you offer SEO on its own?

Yes. SEO and AI search can run as a standalone programme, or alongside PR and performance as one engine.
